Cyprian Kamil Norwid was born in 1821 near Warsaw.  Largely self-taught, he left Poland at the age of 21, moving widely around Europe, befriended by Chopin among others, before travelling to America. Persistently dogged by financial crises, he was forced to return to Paris in 1854. There he spent the rest of his life, dying in a hostel for Polish insurrection veterans in Ivry in 1883.

Norwid was baptized here. This is a village Dąbrówka about 40 km west of Warsaw

Dziś jest Dzień Matki! / Today is Mother’s Day!

W Polsce świętujemy Dzień Matki 26 maja od roku 1914. Mam zaszczyt zaprezentować Wam BERNARDA ŁADYSZA, ulubionego śpiewaka mojej mamy, w pieśni Moja matko, ja wiem. Ładysz jest jednym z największych polskich artystów wszystkich czasów. Moja matka i Ładysz urodzili się w pięknym Wilnie / Vilnius / Wilna – kiedyś polskim mieście, będącym teraz stolicą Litwy.

Bernard Ładysz ma ponad 90 lat i ciągle śpiewa!

In Poland we celebrate this Day on 26th of May since 1914. I have a honour of introducing to you my mother’s favourite singer BERNARD ŁADYSZ in a song I know it my mother. Ładysz is one of the greatest Polish artist of all time. My mother and Ładysz were born in beautiful Wilno / Vilnius / Wilna – former Polish town, now a capital of Lithuania.

Bernard Ładysz is over 90 years old and is still singing!

Który skrzywdziłeś człowieka prostego
śmiechem nad krzywdą jego wybuchając,
Gromadę błaznów koło siebie mając
Na pomieszanie dobrego i złego,

Choćby przed tobą wszyscy się skłonili
Cnotę i mądrość tobie przypisując,
Złote medale na twoją cześć kując,
Radzi, że jeszcze jeden dzień przeżyli,

Nie bądź bezpieczny. Poeta pamięta
Możesz go zabić – narodzi się nowy.

You who wronged

You who wronged a simple man
Bursting into laughter at the crime,
And kept a pack of fools around you
To mix good and evil, to blur the line,

Though everyone bowed down before you,
Saying virtue and wisdom lit your way,
Striking gold medals in your honor,
Glad to have survived another day,

Do not feel safe. The poet remembers.
You can kill one, but another is born.
