Until his election as pope John Paul II was not only a Polish priest named Karol Wojtyla but a writer too. As the old pope he has written his last literary text titled Roman Triptych.
Karol Wojtyła / John Paul II is an outstanding but still underestimated metaphysical writer.

Zbliza sie 3 maj, nie obchodzilam nigdy tego swieta w Polsce, za moich czasow, byly tylko obowiazowe pochody pierwszomajowe.

‚For this moment’…
For this moment of strange death
swept by vast tides of eternity,
for the touch of the distant heat
that makes the garden hold its breath
The moment mingles with eternity,
the drop embraces the ocean,
and the sun’s stillness in slow motion
falls into this flooded depth.
Is life a wave of wonder higher than death?
Deepest silence, flooded bay, solitary human breast.
Sailing from here into heaven
behold, when you lean out,
under the boat
children’s twittering
mingles with wonder.
‚Za tę chwilę’…
Za tę chwilę pełną śmierci dziwnej,
która w wieczność niezmierną opływa,
za dotknięcie dalekiego żaru,
w którym ogród głęboki omdlewa.
Zmieszały się chwila i wieczność,
kropla morze objęła –
opada cisza słoneczna
w głębinę tego zalewu.
Czyż życie jest falą podziwu,
falą wyższą niż śmierć?
Dno ciszy, zatoka zalewu
– samotna ludzka pierś.
Stamtąd żeglując w niebo
kiedy wychylisz się z lodu,
miesza się szczebiot
dziecięcy – i podziw.

I often think of that day of vision:
it will be filled with amazement
at the Simplicity
that can hold the world.
And the world dwells in it, untouched
until now, and beyond.
And then the simple necessity grows
to a still greater yearning
for that one day
embracing all things
with the immeasurable Simplicity
that love’s breathing can bring.

The poem was beautiful showing the simple fact that love is the basis of everything…or at least that was my feeling. Since my ancestry is Polish and Czech, I would indeed enjoy hearing a poem in the Polish language. Thanks again!
